Muzha Tie Guan Yin Old Taiwan Oolong Tea 50g
Harvest: 2001
Origin: Muzha, Taiwan
When first tried aged tea, people were struck by the unique acidity developed over years of aging—a flavor that new tea simply doesn't have. This 2001 Mu Zha Tie Guan Yin has been aged for over 20 years without excessive exposure to air or absorbing unwanted scents, maintaining its character as a quintessential aged tea. It features a smooth richness and natural sweetness reminiscent of sour plums, with a clear brew free from impurities and bitterness. The deep aftertaste lingers pleasantly in the mouth.
Tie Guan Yin is a type of Chinese oolong tea. Notable varieties include Anxi Tie Guan Yin from Fujian Province and Mu Zha Tie Guan Yin produced near Wenshan District in Taipei. This variety originated in Anxi County, Fujian, and was brought to Taiwan by the Zhang brothers during the late Qing Dynasty. Mu Zha refers to the location where the tea trees were first planted. This tea is known for its strong twisting and repeated roasting, resulting in a flavor that combines roasted notes with citrus aromas. The brew exhibits an orange hue, with high-quality leaves picked in spring and winter. Compared to Anxi Tie Guan Yin, Mu Zha Tie Guan Yin has a higher fermentation level and stronger roasting. The production process involves partially fermenting the leaves, followed by pan-frying to stop the fermentation, then twisting and roasting. The vigorous twisting gives the leaves a rounded shape and a glossy surface, resembling iron or a polished finish.
