Huang Zhong (Yellow Bell) Organic Yellow Tea 2026
Spring 2026
Cultivar: Yun Huang (rare large-leaf tea cultivar)
Origin: Jinggu, Yunnan, China
This yellow tea Huang Zhong is crafted by tea maker Tang Wang from Yun Huang, a rare tea cultivar growing in ecological tea gardens along the Lancang River in Yunnan. After years of research into traditional yellow tea processing, he developed his own approach to the crucial menhuang (yellowing) stage. A gentle charcoal finish further enhances the tea’s aroma and lingering aftertaste.
Yellow tea made from Yunnan’s large-leaf varietal differs greatly from those produced in other regions of China using small-leaf cultivars. It bears the structure and strength of Pu’er tea while retaining the warmth and softness unique to yellow tea. The aroma is lifted with sweet roasted chestnut notes and underpinned by the wild orchid nuance characteristic of Yunnan’s large-leaf trees. On the palate, it is brisk yet full-bodied, offering layers of ripe fruit and honeyed sweetness — a true contemporary elevation of traditional yellow tea craftsmanship.
This tea is also suitable for long-term aging. After five years or more, subtle herbal and medicinal notes begin to emerge, and the liquor gains the rounded maturity reminiscent of a top-aged raw Pu’er.
- NOTES -
Sweet corn, wild orchid, fresh herbs, and a smooth, delicate texture.
The yellow tea process softens the wild, energetic character often found in raw Pu-erh, resulting in a gentler and more rounded cup.
-BREWING -
Tea: 3g|Water: 100ml Gaiwan|Temperature: 100°C
Infusion: 15 seconds for the first few infusions. Enjoyable for 10 or more infusions
* Tang Wang's yellow tea was awarded the Gold Medal at the 2024 China Yellow Tea Competition (Certified Batch: MY2406, Mengding Mountain Tea Exchange). The raw tea leaves has passed the EUROFINS organic certification for 448 pesticide and heavy metal residues under EU standards, achieving a “zero detection” result (Report No. EU-TH2016WS).
